HOW TO PREPARE FOR SSC (COMBINED GRADUATE) EXAM

First, let’s know about SSC and selection of posts under SSC (Combined Graduate Level) Examination. Staff Selection Commission (namely SSC) is one of the premier Selection Commission in India under Government of India conducts Combined Graduate Level Examination every year for the selection of candidates for various posts under different Ministries and Departments under Central Government of India. The posts are mainly Assistants in Central Secretariats, Preventive Officers under Customs, Enforcement Officers in Enforcement Directorate of India, Inspectors of Income Tax, Inspectors of Central Excise and Customs, Sub-Inspectors of CBI, Inspectors of Postal Department, Auditors of CAG, Tax Assistants of Income Tax as well as for Central Excise and Customs and many other posts which are vacant time to time as intimated to SSC for recruitment. And SSC conducts this combined Graduate level examination every year all over India.

Even though the pattern of examination keeps on changing in the last few years, but the syllabus and depth of the level of the question remain similar. Now considered as one of the toughest Examination in India other than Civil Services Exam of UPSC which conducts every year for recruitment of various posts, it’s becoming more difficult to clear the exam as the number of candidates keeps on increasing every year. But if you start preparing for this examination well in time, say giving full one year before the examination, every candidate can crack easily. As different from the pattern of UPSC where candidates need to choose a subject paper, here candidates need to concentrate only on the main four sections of the question papers namely, Quantitative analysis, Reasoning, Aptitude test and General studies along with the English language. Sometimes, the level of preliminary paper of SSC is of more difficult than CSAT paper of UPSC in the latest pattern. And the process of selection up to the final list through SSC mainly consists of (a) Preliminary Tier – I, (b) Mains Tier – I and II (Government had removed Interview section up to Group B posts).

Dear candidates, please follow the following steps to excel in SSC Combined Graduate Level Exam with better ranking in all over India.

  1. Candidates should have at least one publication books for all the four sections of the paper I. Generally, Books of RS Agrawal are widely used by maximum candidates as it is revised frequently and updated with corrected solutions and easily available in the market. Otherwise, you can try any of the books for Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, English and General Study paper mainly for practice.
  2. The more practice in English, Mathematics, Reasoning of the above books makes you much brighter and sharper in your examination performance.
  3.  If possible try to have a practice paper either from Internet or copies from Market and practice as much as possible. Because here the speed of solving question papers matters a lot as sometimes the time allotted for each paper is not enough to complete the whole paper even though you can solve all the questions.
  4. Update your General Knowledge with any of the monthly current affair magazines for a period of one year before Examination. Pratiyogita Darpan, Competition Success Review, Wizard etc are some of the magazines which are good enough to have every month and make them your friend.
  5. Read any of the English Daily Newspaper for improvement of Habit of reading as well as for English vocabulary. The Hindu, Indian Express etc are considered as the best newspapers for every aspirant and but always remember to make the qualitative reading of newspaper as every news is not that much important or relevant to you. So, do a selective reading of the newspaper.
  6. If you can devote 2 – 3 hours for teaching students up to class 10 standard of NCERT books will help you a lot apart from your normal preparation and also helps to have some extra income.
  7. Always remember, your time is so precious as every minute's count to your success.
